Who will reap the Harvest
by Rev Doug McClain Luke 10 2 Then He said to them, "The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." The trees are lit up with the color of the Fall season and the farmers and gardeners are working hard to gather their crops for the fields are white unto harvest. This reminds me to the story about the farmer who had a field that he had planted. However, when it came time to harvest, he was busy doing other things and put it off until later. When he finally came to the field to gather his crops he was disappointed to find that someone else had taken his bounteous harvest while he was away. He was left only to glean the pieces that were left behind of a great harvest that should have been his. Tragically, in a spiritual sense this can happen to the Church. Jesus said the the harvest is truly great, but the laborers are few. Are we letting someone else harvest God's field? Rest assured, if we don't do it, someone else will. And with the Internet, Television, and Satellite technology available practically worldwide; we can no longer assume that Americans are hearing only the Christian message. Islam is growing rapidly in numbers, even here in our nation. Wouldn't it be a shame to let the followers of Muhammad harvest the Lord's field? And they are not alone. Cult religions, such as the Mormons, Jehoviah's Witnesses, Scientology, and New Age, are working hard to get their message out and claim as many souls as possible. While they do, the Christian Church sits back and debates "what constitutes a family" and other silly doctrinal issues that shouldn't even need to be debated; unless the Church itself has become the field. It seems that we, like the farmer are busy doing other things while someone else claims the harvest. Please understand, there is only one field. It belongs to the Lord who created it and paid with His life to redeem it. There is only one Harvester; the Holy Spirit. And there is only one source of "authorized laborers"; the Church. All other harvesters are vagabonds who are stealing what the Church is neglecting. How will we explain to the Lord that we allowed His harvest to be taken while we were preoccupied? Let's become laborers, support laborers, and pray for more laborers. Souls and eternal destinies are in the balance. Are YOU a laborer? I am praying right now that God will send more laborers into the field. I want to do my part to not only BE a laborer, but to equip other laborers as well. |
