Migdal, Israel, September 2009

A carved stone was found during excavations of an ancient synagogue recently unearthed near the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee. The synagogue dates back to between 50 B.C. and A.D. 100, making it one of the oldest ever found in the world. The carvings on the stone depict artifacts from the Jewish Second Temple, which was destroyed in A.D. 70 during the Roman siege of Jerusalem.
